Annual Scientific Meeting/ Annual General Meeting

Following on from the regional meeting, We will be staying on in Harrogate for our ASM/AGM. This year, the meeting will be divided into two with the morning being devoted to Liver Disease. Due to the massive impact liver disease has on the nation both in terms of health and also the economy, the Department of Health has appointed Dr Martin Lombard to lead a National Liver Strategy and he will be talking ,along with others, on liver disease and how best primary care can get engaged.

The afternoon will also be topical and will centre on bowel cancer. Professor Wendy Atkins will discuss her recent paper on screening for bowel cancer by flexible sigmoidoscopy. A future role for primary care? Other speakers will talk on how we can adapt the NICE guidelines with the practicalities of primary care in mind.

We are also pleased to have Lynn Faulds Wood coming to our meeting who will discuss the GP's important role in the faster detection of bowel cancer.

You should all be receiving invites in the post soon and as you know for PCSG members the delegate fee is included in the annual membership fee. The cost for PCSG Nurse members is £15 and for all non members £100. If you know anybody who is attending the RCGP meeting, please encourage them to attend what promises to be an excellent meeting.
