For many GPs, gastroenterology is perhaps one of the most frustrating therapeutic areas. Patients often present with mild to moderate symptoms that are difficult to manage, may or may not resolve spontaneously and make separating the physical from the non-physical cause problematic. Importantly, however, it is an area in which GPs need to remain completely alert in order to recognise red flags that can be disguised by a long, tedious list of non-sinister signs and symptoms.
Gastrointestinal disorders account for about 10% of GPs’ workload and the prescribing costs attributed to managing these problems is about 14% of the practice drug budget.
This seminar, which is sponsored by Reckitt Benckiser and supported by the PCSG is aimed at GPs who are keen to update their clinical skills. The presentations will include practical advice and the latest information on a range of topics that have been identified by GPs as the key areas about which they would like to know more.

Coeliac UK, the national charity supporting those with coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis, is launching a new round of research grant awards with up to £200k of funding available.
Applications are welcome from all scientific disciplines where applicants are able to demonstrate how their proposal would advance our understanding of the disease and improve the life of people with the condition. Applications that include co-funding proposals would be particularly welcome.
Awards may take the following form:
• a major 3 year project
• a clinical training fellowship for 3 years
• a preliminary or pump priming project and consumables.
